Spanish invasion

Three Spanish teams will join 2021 Tour of Slovenia, more than ever before in the history of the race. Only Xacobeo Galicia in 2010 and Geox in 2011 were racing in Slovenia so far, but we should not forget about the many great Spanish riders that had already raced in Slovenia.

Slovenian teams are usually high in numbers, this year we’ll have three domestic squads. Italian teams always like to visit our race and had even six teams on some editions, however they will only race with Bardiani- CSF- Faizane & Androni Giocatolli- Sidermec on the 2021 edition.

Three Spanish teams – Equipo Kern Pharma, Caja Rural- Seguros RGA & Euskaltel- Euskadi – mostly rely on the Spanish riders. All are ranked as UCI ProTeams and they will enter Tour of Slovenia for the first time. Could this mean that Spaniards will have second most riders on the race – behind Slovenians?

Spain is a cycling country, but until now they didn’t pay much interest in the Slovenian biggest race. There were in total 25 Spanish riders on the race, among them also famous Carlos Sastre in 2011 and Mikel Nieve (Team Sky) in 2015. We also have to mention Omar Fraile (Team Dimension Data, 2016), Beñat Intxausti (Sky, 2016) & Juan José Cobo (Geox, 2011). Which of the Spanish riders will create race history in 2021?
